Spicebush swallowtail larvae have markings that make them look like snake, helping to deter predators.
1. Genetic diversity:
Members of a population of organisms are not exactly alike, but have some genetic variation that can be passed on to the next generation ... like these beetles.
2. Natural selection:
In a given environment, some traits are better to have than are others. The
organisms in a population with the more favorable triats are better able to survive and reporduce, passing their favorable genes on to the next generation.
3. Time:
Over time, many generations, the population changes as unfavorable traits are selected against, and favorable traits becomemore prevalent in the population.
What Is Biological Evolution? \e-və-lü-shən\
Evolution is a process that results in inheritable changes (genetic changes that can be inherited) in a population, spread over many generations. So, what is required for evolution to happen?

Antibiotic resistance in microbes happens when a microbial population with genetic variation is selected against (killed) through the use of an antibiotic.
Any variant that is resistant to the antibiotic will survive and reproduce. Whereas, microbes without that resistance gene are eliminated. Over time this leads to microbes that are increasingly difficult to kill.
